A consulting project in Mongolia will be a golden
opportunity for a team of graduates from Royal Roads University.
The project is a first under a new agreement, signed in October
2013, between RRU and Oyu Tolgoi LLC (OT), the company developing a mine on one
of the world’s largest copper-gold resources, located in Mongolia’s South Gobi
region. The team(s) will be working with three local small and medium
enterprises (SME) to assist with their supply chain management and business
development requirements so that they can become suppliers to OT. During the
month-long project, they will help develop business plans and assessments of
the local markets so the companies are not entirely dependent on OT for their
continued operations. Press release: Mongolian

Both sides
agreed that the 5 RRU BCom graduates led a very successful program in November
2013 that yielded tangible benefits for the three small Mongolian companies
that received support. Two of the three companies were nominated for “Supplier
of the Year” awards, recognition that would not have been possible without the
engagement and support of the RRU graduates. (The awards were eventually given
to larger, more established companies, but the advances of the small companies
nominated were noted.) Press release: Guiding
